  • INTEREST RATES AREN’T MORTGAGE RATES

    The Fed lowered interest rates, so mortgage rates are sure to follow … right? Well, no. And maybe yes, too. Adjustable-rate mortgages, which allow lenders to adjust a mortgage’s interest rate over time, tend to follow interest rate cuts. Fixed-rate mortgages are different, however, and tend to fluctuate based on the yield of 10-year government bonds. And those bonds are not impacted by interest rates as much as investor demand for them at their current rate of return. But inflation remains the big enemy of bonds because rising prices can sap the value of these long-term investments. In this case, the recent Fed decision to lower interest rates a full half point simultaneously sparked a fear of inflation by investors – and that, in turn, will probably increase FRM rates over the short-term even as it lowers the ARM rates.

  • PMI INSURANCE TAX DEDUCTIBLE 2008?
    Yes -
    Homeowners who pay less than 20 percent down must many times pay for PMI, but a law recently extended by Congress makes that cost fully deductible on income taxes for new loans between 2007 and 2010. It applies to new loans for households making up to $100,000 per year.

  • Mortgage Debt Forgiveness
    Americans who lose their home to foreclosure or bankruptcy no longer have to pay income taxes on any debt forgiven by the bank. A bill signed by President Bush yesterday voids the IRS practice of considering the bank’s write-off on the loan a taxable form of income for the family that already lost a home.

In WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.
